Senegal was too undersized against
Team USA’s guards and low post players. USA won the rebounding battle by nearly
doubling Senegal’s rebounds 40-24 and scoring 66 points in the paint. Senegal
turned the ball over 27 times and USA capitalized by getting in transition and
scoring 41 fast break points.
Several records were broken during this contest. The
previous scoring record in a game for Women’s Olympic basketball was 114 points as
well as the largest scoring margin, which was 60. The largest lead in this game
was 74.
With nine returning Olympic players and several promising new
talent, Team USA handled Senegal easily with a 121-56 win to start their road to gold.
