The USA Women’s basketball team is looking to continue their dominance at the 2016 Olympic Games this year in Rio. They played their first game against Senegal and lead 35-9 by the end of the first quarter.

Team USA had seven players scoring in double-digit figures and shot 56% from three-point range. Diana Taurasi got Team USA off to hot start by going 4-4 from behind the arc in the first half.

Senegal was too undersized against Team USA’s guards and low post players. USA won the rebounding battle by nearly doubling Senegal’s rebounds 40-24 and scoring 66 points in the paint. Senegal turned the ball over 27 times and USA capitalized by getting in transition and scoring 41 fast break points.

Several records were broken during this contest. The previous scoring record in a game for Women’s Olympic basketball was 114 points as well as the largest scoring margin, which was 60. The largest lead in this game was 74.

With nine returning Olympic players and several promising new talent, Team USA handled Senegal easily with a 121-56 win to start their road to gold.
