After starting their quest for gold with an emphatic 65-point victory over Senegal, the U.S Women’s basketball team backed up their performance Monday with a 103-63 victory over Spain.

The U.S. was firing on all cylinders, using every member of the team in the 40-point dismantling of Spain. Nine players scored between 8-13 points, and the team shot 55 percent from the field.

The women assisted on 23 of their 41 field goals, compared to Spain’s 13 assists, and out rebounded the Spaniards 46 to 32.

Although Spain shot 50 percent from the three-point line, they shot 35 percent on 2-point field goals and had 23 turnovers, which was the nail in the coffin against the far superior team USA.

The women’s next game is against Serbia on Wednesday. Serbia lost their first game of the preliminary round to Spain, 65-59, and is led by Jelena Milovanovic, who plays professionally in the Spanish League.
