In the closest game of the Olympics for USA basketball, Men’s or Women’s, the United States defeat Australia 98-88, even after trailing by five points at halftime.

Carmelo Anthony led team USA with 31 points and eight rebounds. Anthony was the best he has been from downtown so far in the Olympics, sinking nine of the 15 three-pointers he took.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant also had big contributions for team USA, with 19 and 14 points respectively. Irving also led team USA with five assists.

Australia was led by Patty Mills, who scored 30 points, and Matthew Dellavedova, who led the team with 11 assists. Andrew Bogut also contributed 15 points, three assists and three blocks.

Team Australia is considered one of the best teams in the Olympics outside of the USA, and could very well have a rematch with team USA in the later rounds of the games.

The U.S. next game is Friday against Serbia. Serbia is 1-2, defeating Venezuela and losing to Australia and France.
